The skills you need to save a life
Even basic first aid can save a life in an emergency.
One of the first things you will do as a new volunteer for St John Ambulance is complete a basic first aid training session, equipping you with the skills that can be the difference between a life lost and a life saved. This is a short, straightforward short session, and is completed by all our volunteers in every part of the organisation.
Once completed, you can go on to begin your role-specific training.
Event first aiders will do five days training over six months. This includes a two-day introductory trainee first aider course, mentored sessions out on events, and then a three-day first aider operational skills course and assessment.
For more information about training for specific roles, check the role description on specific the volunteer vacancies.
We will continue to provide you with on-going training and support. There are many opportunities to progress and develop within your role as a volunteer, including trainer and assessor roles, management opportunities, and more. Your line manager can help you to identify your strengths as a volunteer, and where there might be opportunities for progression.
